Just in case you missed it, the Kansas City Royals won the World Series! (Let me take a moment to read those words in print …)
Now, you may not know this, but here in Kansas City we bleed blue for the Royals! Seriously –businesses are closing and school is called off across the metro area to be sure everyone has a chance to attend the victory parade for our heroes today.
In one of life’s “you just can’t make this stuff up” events, just as my beloved Kansas City Royals are making their way down through downtown Kansas City for their first World Series winning parade in thirty years, James and I will be in the air, flying to (of all places) New York City where I will be speaking at the InterActiveLegal Symposium.
I really wanted to be at that parade: Kansas City is my hometown, I grew up within ear shot of the K and have loved our boys in blue through good times and bad since the day they first set foot on the field in old Municipal Stadium.
But all is not lost – the IMS team is making a special expedition to the celebration and will be sharing the entire event on social media. Thanks to their intrepid coverage, you and I will get a front row seat to the parade and all of the festivities!
Lest you think this is all play, keep this in mind: what we are doing for the Royals’ World Series Win (I just really love how that sounds!!) is going to be a great example of what social media can do for your law firm. Consider everything we do as an example of how you can reach the hearts and minds of your followers, friends and anyone searching for help with their estate planning.
If you’ve been following our Facebook page, you’ve seen quite a bit of hometown spirit on display – including several promotional videos that show our love for the Royals. Don’t dismiss those as just so much fan-aticism. Our most popular video reached nearly 7,500 people and got more than 2,000 views! Every one of our promo videos was shared hundreds of times throughout the playoffs and the World Series.
What does that do for IMS? Well, we had a ton of fun, which may have been the most important part. But we also showed Facebook that we create content people want to read, view and share. In return, Facebook shows more of our content to more of our targeted audience, giving everything we publish a solid boost in terms of social media reach. More than 16,000 people have “liked” our page and last week alone our posts reached more than 10,000 people with relevant, organic content (in other words, not paid advertising!).
A Missouri kindergarten class wrote a list of 10 things that they thought the Royals should do to win the Series. They are emblematic of the wisdom that exists within simple truths and as you can see, apply to any kind of business success.
Advice from Miss Meyer’s Kindergarten Class on how to Win the WORLD SERIES
- Practice a lot and drink lots of water to get strong – like 6 gallons
- Work as a team
- TRY YOUR BEST
- Catch the ball without missing it!
- Catch the ball with BOTH hands
- Stay focused…
- Don’t get tagged when you run!
- But most importantly – Don’t give UP!!
I’m proud to send a big shout out to the World Champion Kansas City Royals and the very wise students of Miss Meyer’s class – they both understand that winning takes team work, preparation and practice, staying focused and never, ever giving up!! #ForeverRoyal #TaketheCrown #CrownCity
